Warsaw. Maciej Szczęsny detained for road control. He was under the influence of alcohol. Charges and the indictment. What is threatening him?

At the beginning of October, former footballer Maciej Szczęsny was arrested for a roadside check under the influence of alcohol. The proceedings in his case lasted three days. Now the prosecutor’s office has informed that the indictment is already in court.

– The suspect confessed to committing the alleged offense and provided explanations in the case. The District Prosecutor’s Office for Warszawa-Ochota in Warsaw on October 8, 2021, sent a bill of indictment to the court in this case – prosecutor Aleksandra Skrzyniarz was presented.

The offense under Article 178a p. 1 of the Penal Code is punishable by a fine, restriction of liberty or imprisonment for up to two years.

Two beers and “monstrous shame”

Maciej Szczęsny was arrested for road control on October 5 in the morning in Aleje Jerozolimskie. A 56-year-old athlete “blew” 0.6 per mille of alcohol. His driving license was retained.

This is how he talked about the circumstances of his detention: – I was taking my wife to work. The wife is a flight attendant and I was detained for inspection. Quite unexpectedly, my wife was called to work because she had a so-called telephone standby. We live very far from the airport. We have over 30 kilometers.

Szczęsny claimed that the day before in the evening he had dinner and “drank two beers”. – I went to sleep, and at 3:05 the phone rang, calling my wife at 4:15 in Okecie. When I got in, I had no feeling that there was anything “wrong” – he explained. “I am terribly ashamed,” said the former footballer, now a TV expert.

The case of Szczęsny will be heard by the District Court for the Capital City of Of Warsaw.
