The heavy cover of the storm drain was lying on the viaduct over the Starzyńskiego roundabout. A car could fall into the open canal at any moment.
On Wednesday morning, the city guards standing at the traffic lights on Namysłowska Street were approached by a driver coming off the viaduct over the Starzyńskiego roundabout. He reported that there was an unsecured manhole there. As the city guard pointed out in the communiqué, the incident took place during the morning rush hour. At any moment, passing cars could damage the chassis there or lead to an accident. The officers intervened.
The right tools were needed
In front of the open manhole on the side of the approaching cars, they parked a police car with its lights on to warn drivers. The relevant authorities were also called. – In order to clear the passage of at least one lane of traffic, we moved the heavy manhole cover lying on the left lane, but we couldn’t put it on the manhole. For this, appropriate tools and help were needed – said inspector Justyna Faltynowska from the 6th Regional Department quoted in the release.
In the end, the employees of the Municipal Roads Authority coped with the failure. They told the officers that the manhole cover could have been broken by a heavy truck passing by.
