Two women died in an accident on Woronicza Street. Exactly one week after the tragedy, a memorial march will take place. The organizers of the demonstration are demanding improved safety on the streets and harsher penalties for road thugs.

The march in memory of those who died in a tragic accident on Woronicza Street on Tuesday will take place on August 20 at 6 p.m. The organizer of the demonstration is the grassroots initiative “Streets for People”. “Let's light candles for the people who died, let's show solidarity with the injured, including the child who will definitely not leave the hospital by then. Let's make this street completely safe for two hours – when there will be a crowd of people on it, there will be no cars rushing by. Let's appeal together to the city authorities for a quick – for now temporary, and in time permanent – reconstruction of this place, to change it from a racetrack into a peaceful urban space for people. Let's appeal together to the authorities of our country to change the regulations and treat road bandits more severely” – we read in the description of the event on social media.

The day after the accident, the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw informed about initiating an investigation in the direction of causing a land traffic disaster, which resulted in the death of two people. This is an act punishable by six months to eight years in prison. The 45-year-old heard the charges and was temporarily arrested.

The prosecutor's office confirmed that the driver had a previous conviction for causing an accident. His driving license was taken away. He was re-licensed in February this year.

As we reported on tvnwarszawa.pl, at least since 2017 Warsaw officials knew that the ill-fated crossing to Woronicza was extremely dangerous. The authors of the audit commissioned by the city hall at the time accurately predicted the worst-case scenario.
