The health ministry has noticed the approach of another wave of coronavirus in Poland. – For two weeks, from week to week, we have been observing an approximately 60% increase in coronavirus infections, but this does not translate into an equally rapid increase in hospitalized people. Currently there are 450 of them, including 16 under respirators – Health Minister Adam Niedzielski announced at Friday’s press conference.

In total, 1,046 new SARS-CoV-2 infections were recorded on Friday, the day before there were 1,075. The last time we saw the four-digit number of infections three months ago, in April. The highest number of new infections was confirmed in Mazovia in the last 24 hours – there were 220 of them.

Data from the capital also shows that more and more people with COVID-19 are on the rise. For the last four consecutive days, the number of new coronavirus infections has exceeded one hundred. There were 144 on Tuesday, 108 on Wednesday, 109 on Thursday and 114 on Friday, respectively. In total, almost half a thousand people fell ill during these few days.

The increase in the number of cases in Warsaw has been visible since the end of June, when over 90 new cases were confirmed twice. Previously, throughout the month, their number only once exceeded 50.

In May, a maximum of several dozen new infections per day were recorded. Their number never exceeded a hundred. For the last time, more than a hundred new SARS-CoV-2 infections were confirmed on April 26.

Will there be new covid restrictions?

In his speech on Friday, the head of the health ministry recalled that people with symptoms of the disease are currently being tested for coronavirus infection in the country. The departure from universal testing is related to the fact that – as he assessed – the country has a high level of immunization, i.e. resistance in society to coronavirus infection.

– We have established that as long as the number of hospitalizations does not exceed five thousand nationwide, we will not take any restrictive steps – announced the Minister of Health. He recommended that people over 70 and with impaired immunity wear masks in confined spaces, but emphasized that it was a “soft recommendation”.

At the same time, Niedzielski admitted that currently in Poland there is one of the highest R indicators since the beginning of the pandemic, determining the scale of coronavirus reproduction. – Right now, this week, we have a situation where most days the number of cases reported daily exceeds a thousand. This number of studies is in the vicinity of 6,000 and these increases, which we are seeing week by week, have led to the R index, or the so-called reproductive rate, increasing to a level close to 1.5, which is one of the highest levels. that we observed during the pandemic – said the minister.
