Over the past two days, over 120 new coronavirus infections have been reported in Warsaw. These numbers are increasing week by week, but at the same time the level of vaccination is increasing – it is now 67 percent. This means that over 1.2 million people have received two doses of the vaccine. This is the third best result in Poland and the first among large cities.
The Ministry of Health announced on Thursday about 974 new, confirmed cases of coronavirus infection across Poland. The ministry said that 14 people died last day due to COVID-19. The highest number of infections was confirmed in Mazowieckie voivodship, where 156 infections were recorded.
The number of infections in the capital is also growing. On Thursday and Wednesday, more than 60 people received positive results of the coronavirus test, on Tuesday there were over 50 of them. Last week these numbers hovered around 40 a day.
Meanwhile, the capital city hall boasted that the vaccination campaign against the coronavirus is going very well in Warsaw. “Warsaw is a leader in vaccination among large cities in Poland. More than 67% of the inhabitants of the capital are fully vaccinated. Thank you for your responsibility and concern for your health and the safety of others” – the city wrote on Facebook. According to the government, there are over 1.2 million people vaccinated in Warsaw.
Warsaw will receive a prize of PLN 100,000
Only two much smaller towns achieved a better result than the capital city. Podkowa Leśna in the district of Grodzisk, where over 2.6 thousand people are fully vaccinated (68.8 percent of the population). The second is the town of Wronki in Greater Poland, where 12.8 thousand people were vaccinated, which constitutes 67.2 percent of all.
Exceeding the threshold of 67 percent. means that the commune receives an award in the Medal Commune # SzczepimySię organized by the government. Podkowa Leśna has already received such an award. As we read on the government website, Commune na Medal # SzczepimySię is one of three competitions to encourage participation in the covid vaccination program. “The first 500 municipalities in Poland, where the vaccination level of residents reaches a minimum of 67 percent, win 100,000 zlotys” – we read on the website.
As indicated in the description, the competition ends when 500 municipalities reach the level of 67 percent. vaccinated residents or on December 31, 2021. It was also emphasized that the vaccinated person was a resident of a given commune who had received a full course of vaccination with a vaccine registered in the European Union.
In which municipal facilities were the most vaccinated?
At the beginning of September, one of the Ochota councilors Sylwia Mróz and the chairman of the Warsaw Council, Ewa Malinowska-Grupińska, asked in an interpellation about the number of vaccinations against coronavirus in municipal institutions. The answer given by the vice-president of Warsaw, Renata Kaznowska, shows that the most – over 139,000 – vaccinations were performed by the Independent Group of Public Open Health Establishments in Targówek. Slightly less, more than 107,000, were made in SPZOZ Warszawa Wola-Śródmieście. SZPZLO Warszawa-Ochota came third with over 85,000 vaccines. The smallest number of them was performed at the Warsaw Children’s Hospital SPZOZ (646) and the Medical Center “Żelazna” (921). In total, 649,256 were performed in these municipal institutions.
In addition, nearly 230,000 vaccines were administered at municipal public vaccination centers. Most at the Legia Stadium (over 76,000). Over 23,000 vaccinations were also performed at weekend points organized by the city.
