The Greenery Board showed what the new lighting looks like in the Swiss Valley. Dozens of new atmospheric lanterns replaced old and worn-out ones. Energy-saving luminaires also minimize light pollution for the park's wild inhabitants.
The replacement was carried out as part of the Green Fund for Warsaw, together with E.ON Polska. 42 street lights, which were largely damaged and energy-intensive, were modernized. The lighting was replaced with energy-saving LED fixtures, thanks to which the street lights are now more energy-efficient. “We have also minimized light pollution, which will benefit local residents and the park's wild inhabitants,” assures the Greenery Board.
Huge savings
The city gardeners also explain that LED fixtures are the most energy-efficient type of lighting. They use much less energy than traditional light sources. The previous fixtures used in the Swiss Valley had a power of around 70 W each. After installing the new fixtures, it was reduced to 27 W. “This means that almost three times less electricity is now needed to light the park! Over the course of a year, thanks to the 42 new fixtures, we will save almost 7,000 kilowatt-hours of energy,” they calculate.
– Saving energy and using it efficiently is very important both for us and for our customers. This is a challenge that not only each of us faces, but also entire communities and cities. We believe in joint action and want to contribute to changes for the better, which is why we are eager to get involved in initiatives in this area. We are glad that thanks to our investment, Warsaw's Swiss Valley will now be more energy-efficient – says Piotr Bonecki, head of the mass market at E.ON Polska, quoted in the release.
With the animals living in the park in mind
Officials emphasize that the new fixtures will allow the light beam to be directed where it is needed. Thanks to this, the plants and animals of the park will be able to return to their natural circadian rhythm. This is an important change for local residents as well.
– We are pleased that thanks to cooperation with enterprises in the capital we have even more greenery and small architecture, and we can also modernize historic parks. Since 2021, as part of the Green Fund for Warsaw, we have concluded 29 agreements, planted over two thousand square meters of low greenery and arranged a pocket park. This is not the first time we have cooperated with E.ON Polska. In 2022, we paved 250 square meters of concrete surfaces – says Magda Młochowska, the coordinating director for green Warsaw, quoted in the ZZW press release.
The Green Fund for Warsaw is a platform for cooperation with companies that want to get involved in the ecological transformation of the capital. Support for the green development of the city can be financing planting, maintenance of greenery, or small architecture.
