Traffic in the area of ​​the Młociny shopping mall in Warsaw's Bielany district was paralyzed on Saturday by a large number of cars. Drivers stood in traffic jams for hours to get out of the store parking lot. The gallery authorities issued a statement.

Up to four hours – that's how long it took drivers trying to get out of the Galeria Młociny parking lot in Warsaw's Bielany district on Saturday afternoon and evening. Not only the parking lot itself was paralyzed, but also the area around the mall, where people had to wait in traffic jams for a long time.

Many hours of traffic jams at the Młociny shopping mall

At Kontakt24 we received a photo of one of the cars stuck in a traffic jam in the parking lot near the mall. Photos of traffic jams around the gallery can also be seen in social media posts.

The main problem was the Zgrupowania AK “Kampinos” street running alongside the gallery and the area around the intersection of this road with Książat Mazowieckich street.

Kontakt24 journalists contacted the Warsaw Police Headquarters regarding this matter. Commissioner Rafał Rutkowski, press officer of the KSP, informed that the police did not intervene on site, but they are aware of the heavy traffic, which is probably due to Christmas shopping.

Statement of Galeria Młociny

The authorities of the shopping mall issued a statement on this matter. “We would like to inform you that traffic jams in the area of ​​Galeria Młociny and at the exits from the parking lot result from the introduction of new traffic organization by ZDM, and specifically the activation of traffic lights at ul. Książat Mazowieckich. Unfortunately, as the Galeria, we have no direct influence on this situation, but we are taking action, to improve current conditions,” we read in a message addressed to customers.

The authorities of Galeria Młociny also said in their entry that they had initiated “contact with relevant municipal units to jointly find better solutions – such as redirecting traffic to alternative routes or appropriate adjustment of traffic lights in order to reduce congestion.”

The statement added: “in our parking lot, security is working to improve traffic flow and make entry and exit from the mall as easy as possible.”

Mall representatives also informed that due to the fact that many drivers decided to leave their cars overnight, the parking lot will be open on Sunday from 6 a.m. (Sunday will be commercial). On Saturday it will be closed at midnight, i.e. for two hours after the stores close.

Customers are outraged by the situation. One of the customers wrote in a comment under the gallery's entry that she traveled only about one meter during 20 minutes of standing in a traffic jam. “We are stuck in the parking lot! Nothing changes for the next hours. We are standing in the same places. It is hard to believe that a change in traffic organization causes the car to stand still for 3 hours,” commented another.
