As she said, many ideas concern: small architecture, construction of bicycle paths, reconstruction of squares, repairs of pavements, sports fields and playgrounds. Green projects are also submitted – planting new trees and shrubs. As noted by Zdrodowska, the so-called soft projects, such as the organization of neighborhood meetings, dance parties, concerts, recreational and sports activities.

Participatory budget changes Warsaw, projects respond to needs

But, as Karolina Zdrodowska emphasized, the most important stage is voting. It gives residents the opportunity to choose projects that “stole their hearts, they like the most, in which they see their greatest needs.” As she added, almost 900 people have already cast their votes since midnight. – I encourage residents to get acquainted with the participatory budget offer, read the projects and choose those according to which they would like to change the Warsaw and local reality – said the official.

As she emphasized, the participatory budget changes Warsaw in the best possible way – according to the needs of residents. – Your votes have power, decide together what to donate over PLN 100 million from the budget of the city of Warsaw – she appealed to the residents of Zdrodowska. – At the same time, the participatory budget is a great way to build local communities, because the discussions at the meeting revolve around the submitted projects, and then on the implementation and already completed projects – she emphasized.

90,000 residents applied last year

– The participatory budget has been changing Warsaw for a decade. During this time, over four thousand projects have been implemented, which were submitted by Warsaw residents to the participatory budget and which the residents chose because the participatory budget is to change their reality and the surroundings of Warsaw – emphasized Mariusz Budziszewski, Warsaw councilor (Civic Coalition).

More than 90,000 people voted last year. – We encourage you to beat this number this year and reach 100,000. We have an impact on the environment, we have an impact on the history of our city – said Budziszewski. He also emphasized the importance of the place where the conference was held: the neighborhood frog fountains. – Thanks to the local community and the office of the Wola district, this place has been restored and revitalized – he added.

Rafał Kowalczyk, the author of the project and a member of the neighborhood group SOS for backyards in Muranów, told about the fountain, created as part of the 9th edition of the participatory budget. As he noted, he waited with the residents for 40 years for the return of the fountain. – Finally succeeded. Despite many years of minor misunderstandings and difficulties. A few years compared to 40 years of waiting is nothing, he said. He also encouraged people to vote. – Only the author knows how much work it costs. It’s up to you to do what’s easiest: to vote.
