Renovation works will cover the entire Na Rozdrożu Square – on both levels. As part of the investment, lifts will be installed to connect the upper part of the square with Trasa Łazienkowska. – For many people, the most important novelty will certainly be the construction of elevators that will connect the upper and lower levels of the square. They will lead straight to the bus stops along Trasa Łazienkowska, which are currently only accessible via long stairs. Elevators will be a great help for the elderly, people with disabilities or carers with children, for whom this place is completely inaccessible today.

Cyclists will also benefit. Existing crossings will be widened, a bicycle link will be built on the western side of the square and a bicycle path will connect this place with the overpasses over Agrykola that are being reconstructed. The details of the investment were presented by the mayor of the capital, Rafał Trzaskowski.

The works on Plac Na Rozdrożu will take about a year. The cost of the investment – carried out by Strabag – will amount to PLN 26.4 million. It will be co-financed under the Government Road Development Fund.

Renovation respecting history

Plac Na Rozdrożu is a special place. On the one hand, it is a historic area, which was established in the 18th century as part of the Stanisławowska Axis. On the other hand, in the 20th century it underwent a number of changes in connection with the construction of Trasa Łazienkowska. Since then, the central part of the square has two levels, with a city artery running under its slab in a tunnel.

As indicated in the communication by the Municipal Roads Authority, the project of changes at Na Rozdrożu Square was prepared with respect for its historical layer and taking into account modern needs. It was preceded by public consultations and arrangements with the conservator of monuments.
