The 35-year-old was caught red-handed while driving a stolen car. He was charged with 11 counts. He was given a lift to Warsaw from Płock by his partner, who also faces a severe penalty.
Officers from the Warsaw Police Headquarters dealing with vehicle crime analyzed cases of theft of Toyota Prius in Żoliborz and Bielany.
– The method of operation in each of the cases investigated indicated that the crimes were committed by the same person, and the trail led the detectives to Płock. They planned an operation. Knowing that another theft had occurred, they took action and prepared a roadblock on the route before Zakroczym. They correctly selected the intersection where the perpetrator would be – describes junior asp. Bartłomiej Śniadała from the Warsaw police. – When the man was waiting at the traffic lights for the lights to change, the police officers intervened and detained him. He had two GPS and GSM jammers in his Toyota. The detained 35-year-old admitted that he had stolen the car from Bielany. At that time, the owner of the vehicle did not know that his car had been stolen. He found out about it from the police – he adds.
He had previously tried to steal another car.
The detainee admitted that before the theft he had tried to steal another car, but had failed. The Płock resident was allegedly assisted in the thefts by his partner, who had driven him to Warsaw. She was also detained. During a search of the apartment and garage that the detainee had rented, the police found parts from other stolen cars.
11 allegations, partner's problems
The procedural material gathered by police officers from the Department for Combating Car Crime and the District Police Headquarters Warsaw V provided the basis for presenting the 35-year-old man with 10 charges of car burglary and one attempted burglary at the District Prosecutor's Office Warsaw-Żoliborz. His partner is suspected of aiding and abetting the theft.
The court will decide their fate. They face up to 10 years in prison. The proceedings are supervised by the Warsaw-Żoliborz District Prosecutor's Office.
