The capital's police are conducting an operation called “Silent City II”. They are checking whether cars are not generating excessive noise. They are also paying attention to aggressive behaviour of drivers towards other road users.
They check cars after tuning
As the KSP reminds, a vehicle travelling on the roads should meet the appropriate technical requirements, including those concerning environmental protection. “According to the wording of art. 66 sec. 1 of the Road Traffic Act, a vehicle taking part in road traffic should be constructed, equipped and maintained in such a way that its use does not disturb, among other things, public peace,” argue the Warsaw police.
Drivers must also remember that everyone is obligated to take care of the technical condition of their vehicle. The police emphasize that this applies to both manufacturers and entities involved in professional tuning.
Sound meters measure noise levels
As part of the activities carried out, the police mainly focus on monitoring and inspections in the strict center of the capital city of Warsaw, but also in other districts where violations occur in the form of vehicles exceeding the permissible noise level. The SPEED group is involved in the activities, and the police use marked and unmarked vehicles equipped with video recorders and control and measurement devices, i.e. sound level meters. They use them to measure, among other things, the level of noise emitted, and where justified, also to test the light transmittance of car windows.
As explained by the KSP, during the operations, the police officers monitor traffic routes and respond to “cases of exceeding permissible speeds and other offences against safety and order in road traffic”. Officers check vehicles for their technical condition and “apply measures provided for by law” against drivers whose vehicles disturb public peace by generating excessive noise. They also carry out detailed checks of drivers for their licenses, sobriety, or driving under the influence of intoxicants.
