Warsaw. Problems with the renovation of the Łazienkowska Route viaducts. The deadline for completion of works will change

The thorough reconstruction of the Łazienkowska Route viaducts over Paryska Street in Saska Kępa is underway. In May, the capital city hall reported that the new, 210-meter-long northern viaduct slab is ready“The opening of the new viaduct and switching of traffic to it in both directions is planned for the summer,” the city hall informed at the time.

The holidays are coming to an end, and not much has changed on the construction site since May. There is no talk of shifting traffic to the new crossing in the near future. A few days ago, “Gazeta Stołeczna” reported that the investment was delayed. The Capital City Development Authority, which is responsible for the reconstruction of viaducts on behalf of the city hall, confirms this information.

– We are currently working on introducing replacement design documentation that will allow for the comprehensive reconstruction of both roadways of al. Stanów Zjednoczonych – including the access and exit from the newly built viaduct, which will enable its opening. As part of the ongoing investment on the roadways of al. Stanów Zjednoczonych, approximately 15 centimeters of the upper surface layer was to be replaced. The idea was to lay a so-called quiet surface, which reduces road noise. However, during the works, it turned out that the substructures of both roadways, i.e. their deeper layers, are in poor technical condition and the roadways need to be comprehensively rebuilt – Agata Choińska-Ostrowska, spokeswoman for SZRM, told us.

This means that the contractor – Warbud will need more time to complete the investment. How much? SZRM does not provide this information yet. Choińska-Ostrowska indicated that changes in the investment schedule will be known soon.

The SZRM representative emphasized that the work in other places was being carried out according to schedule. – In July, asphalt was laid on the new viaduct and the assembly of the viaduct equipment, including posts for acoustic screens, was underway. Work was also underway on the retaining wall made of gabions and finishing works. In addition, acoustic screens, street lighting and the telecommunications network were being built along al. Stanów Zjednoczonych – enumerated Choińska-Ostrowska.

The works on Saska Kępa are the next stage of the reconstruction of Trasa Łazienkowska. So far, the following have been renovated: Łazienkowski Bridge, viaducts at the junctions with Wisłostrada and Wał Miedzeszyński, and the viaduct at Przyczółek Grochowski. After opening the viaducts of Trasa Łazienkowska at Agrykola to traffic a few months ahead of schedule, the works are currently focused on the modernization of the section of the route running through the right-bank part of Warsaw.

During the reconstruction of the Łazienkowska Route viaducts over Bajońska and Paryska streets, the main detour is the Siekierkowska Route.

According to the current schedule, the construction of viaducts on Saska Kępa is to be completed in mid-2025. Now we know that this deadline is unrealistic.
