People with disabilities and their carers protest. On Saturday, they gathered in several Polish cities. In Warsaw, they appeared in front of the Presidential Palace. They demand e.g. abolition of the ban on work for carers receiving a nursing benefit.

As they explain, the benefits they receive are not too high, and they cannot earn extra money, they would lose these modest benefits. They don’t have the time or energy to work full-time. “It’s a vicious circle,” they explain. The demands of the protesters included: the abolition of the obligation to pay the care benefit after the death of the ward, the abolition of the disability pension trap, or the construction of a network of toilets adapted to changing diapers for adults with disabilities.

In Poznań, the protest took place at Plac Kolegiacki. The words of the organizer of the protest were quoted by TVN24 reporter Nadia Rulak. “I have no conviction, I haven’t done anything wrong, and yet I am limited when it comes to civil liberties. I can’t work, I can’t earn extra money because then my nursing benefit will be taken away from me – quoted a TVN24 reporter.

– The Ministry of Family and Social Policy promised that in January there would be some specifics regarding these demands. Now it is said that perhaps more will be known about this in March – she said.
