The qualifying rounds for the 19th Chopin Competition start. From April 23 to May 4, the jury will evaluate recitals of 163 candidates. Each of the sessions in the Chamber Hall of the National Philharmonic in Warsaw will be broadcast online. About 80 people will get to the October competition.
The Fryderyk Chopin National Institute has received a record number of applications for the 19th edition of the Chopin Competition. 642 pianists from 54 countries joined the qualification stage.
163 pianists and pianists from 28 countries will appear in the eliminations starting on Wednesday. China, South Korea, Japan, Poland, Canada and Italy will be most represented, but representatives of such Brazil, Thailand, Malaysia and Uzbekistan will also perform.
They will perform 30-minute recitals
During the elimination, pianists will perform about 30-minute recitals, which include the Etudes, Nocturnes, Scherz and Mazurian Fryderyk Chopin listed in the regulations of the competition.
The participants will be assessed by the jury of the elimination composed of: Wojciech Świtała, Ludmil Angelov, Nikolai Demidenko, Krzysztof Jabłoński, Kevin Kenner, Marc Laforeret, Alberto Nose, Piotr Paleczny (chairman), Ewa Pobłocka and Katarzyna Popowa-Rydroń. The jury will choose about 80 pianists who will perform at the Chopin competition in October.
The eliminations take place in the Chamber Hall of the National Philharmonic in Warsaw in two sessions – morning from 10 and afternoon from 5pm. The auditions will also be available in the broadcast on the competition website and on Facebook and the official channel of the Chopin Institute on YouTube, as well as on the Polish Radio Chopin.

19th edition of the Chopin Competition
The nearest, nineteenth edition of the International Piano Competition Fryderyk Chopin will take place on October 2-23, 2025 at the National Philharmonic in Warsaw. The competition is organized by the Fryderyk Chopin National Institute.
