The Mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, confirmed that Adriana Porowska, supported by the Third Way, is to be the vice-president of the capital in the event of his re-election. The question remains open at whose expense, because there may be a total of four deputies and deputies. And that’s all he has. – We will talk about the details when we win the elections – said Trzaskowski.

Support of Rafał Trzaskowski in the elections for the president of Warsaw, leaders of the Third Way announced on Saturday during the convention in Otrębusy. Szymon Hołownia and Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz will not put forward their candidate in the fight for the capital city hall, and the price for supporting his current host is to be Adriana Porowska, as his deputy.

– Warsaw needs two lungs today. It needs Rafał Trzaskowski, but it also needs Ada Porowska, who will be our candidate for vice-president of Warsaw, as the social lung – advertised Porowska Hołownia.

Rafal Trzaskowski does not want to share the skin of the bear

On Monday, Rafał Trzaskowski said that this decision will be officially announced in the coming days. What exactly would the new vice president be responsible for at City Hall?

– I would not like to split the bear’s skin and say who will be responsible for which area. But I confirm that Ada Porowska will be vice president if we win the elections. Only then will we be able to talk about the division of responsibilities, Trzaskowski assured himself. But a moment later he said: – We all know that Ada Porowska dealt primarily with people in crisis of homelessness, she helped us when we accepted refugees from Ukraine. It is natural that social assistance is closest to her interests and substantive preparation.

What’s next for Aldona Machnowska-Góra?

It is certain that the number of vice presidents and vice presidents will not increase. According to the Act on municipal self-government, the mayor of a city – regardless of whether it has a population of several dozen thousand or two million – can have only four deputies. And that’s all Rafał Trzaskowski has. Today, the “social lung” is Aldona Machnowska-Góra, who is also responsible for culture. If Porowska Machnowska-Góra becomes vice president, will she have to leave? This is not certain.

First of all, in the new hand, Trzaskowski can make some reshuffles, he does not have to make a one-to-one change. Secondly, in the Warsaw authorities, supervision over individual offices (and this is real power) is also performed by officials in other positions, primarily the city secretary and city director (this function was created during the term of office of Rafał Trzaskowski). There are also two coordinating directors. This was the position of Aldona Machnowska-Góra until 2020. She became vice president only after Paweł Rabiej was dismissed.

Adriana Porowska. “Warsaw resident by choice”

Adriana Porowska is the president of the Kamilian Social Welfare Mission, which runs a shelter for several dozen people in crisis of homelessness. Just after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, she coordinated volunteering at the Central and Western stations, where crowds of Ukrainians fleeing the war were staying in early March 2022.

Porowska is also co-chair of the Expert Committee on Counteracting Homelessness at the Commissioner for Human Rights. He cooperates with Szymon Hołownia on social policy issues. For several years, she served as the chairwoman of the Social Dialogue Committee on Homelessness in Warsaw.

– I am a resident of Warsaw by choice. 25 years ago I came to Warsaw, I loved it, I stayed here. I was surprised by this Warsaw – rushing, anonymous and unnoticeable. The first needy person I noticed was sitting on the sidewalk. I will never forget her face. It was an old lady – Porowska said during the above-mentioned convention in Otrębusy.

She argued that she was speaking out for people “who cannot be seen with the naked eye in glass office buildings or in gated communities.” – I know perfectly well how people who arrived at Dworzec Zachodni by bus feel, because I also arrived that way once – she recalled.

She emphasized her social sensitivity. – I hear that we can afford to rebuild the palace (Saski – ed.). Cool. Only I won’t allow people to sit in the shadow of this palace and reach out for help, she added.

Elections for the president of Warsaw. Who’s running?

The following candidates are running for president of the capital: running for a second term Rafał Trzaskowski (Civic Coalition); supported by Law and Justice Tobiasz Bocheński; Magdalena Biejat – candidate of the Left, Przemysław Wipler as a representative of the Confederation and Non-partisan Local Government.
