Platform 9, located on the Wola side of the Western Railway Station, has gained better and safer access. Railway workers informed that it will be available to travelers from Friday.
PKP PLK announced in a press release that from October 13 it is possible to get to platform 9 faster from Aleje Jerozolimskie. PLK SA and the contractor, Budimex, built a new sidewalk connecting platforms 8 and 9. Thanks to this, passengers will reach the Wola platform of Warszawa Zachodnia 10 minutes faster. The access route leads through platform number 8 and a safe passage at the rail level.
Ultimately, a direct underground passage will be built at the station, connecting platform 9 with the platforms from Aleje Jerozolimskie, which will increase access to trains. “Nowa Zachodnia also has a comfortable footbridge, elevators, and escalators, i.e. elements that facilitate travel for thousands of passengers of long-distance, regional and agglomeration trains,” said the press release from the Ministry of Infrastructure.
Work will be completed at the end of next year
The Warszawa Zachodnia station is being rebuilt. Work on the construction of further new platforms is progressing. Further roofing elements are being installed. Work is being carried out in the track, railway traffic control, telecommunications and traction network industries. A station hall is also being built to serve passengers from the side of the street. Kolejowa.
Modernization began in 2020. Last year, railway workers announced that the works would be completed in 2023. In July, PKP PLK announced that this date would be moved to the end of next year.
