According to the new schedule, all works at the West Railway Station are to be completed by the end of next year, railway workers announced on Wednesday. This is another deadline, initially the reconstruction of the station was to be completed by 2023, later it was mentioned at the end of this year.
Through the renovation of the Warszawa Zachodnia station from June 25 until September 2, suburban railway the middle line has been closed. The timetables of the Fast City Rail lines S1 and S20 and Koleje Mazowieckie have changed.
Track No. 2 of the WKD was also closed on the section from the stop Warszawa Reduta Ordona to Warszawa Śródmieście WKD. Therefore, trains run on this section on a single track.
On Tuesday, railway workers reported further difficulties. – In connection with the commencement of the next phase of works, i.e. demolition of the underground passage and renovation of platforms 1 and 2, from July 29, the underground passage under these platforms will be closed. This is related to preparatory work – said project director at PKP PLK Marcin Kowalczyk.
PKP: completion of the most important works in the middle of next year
– We are trying to have these most important works completed by the middle of next year. We are talking about the top, i.e. the track system and all platforms. The last element will be the underground passage, which will be opened at the very end of the investment. Due to the fact that it is one object and an occupancy permit is needed, so that pedestrian traffic can be let through safely. This is related to the method of work, i.e. the ceiling method – noted Marcin Kowalczyk.
He explained that at the time of construction of the ceiling on segment 6, platforms, tracks, catenary will be built, a high roof will be built, and level -1 will continue underneath. – Then, after completing level -1, we move to level -2 and there we will also work with the ceiling method – he added.
Works in the underground passage until the end of 2024
When asked about the date of completion of the works in the underground passage, he said that the reconstruction will probably end at the end of 2024.
– Until then, passengers will be able to use the footbridge. In addition, at the end of August, lifts to platforms 6 and 7 will be launched. And we will gradually deliver lifts to other platforms, he explained.
PKP PLK spokesman Karol Jakubowski pointed out that from July 29, the access road to platforms 2 and 1 will change. The next stages of work will begin to make the underground passage wider, about 60 meters wide, longer and connect platforms 1-8 with platform 9 on the Wola side, he explained.
The modernization of the West Railway Station began in 2020. Last year, railway workers announced that the work would be completed in 2023.
