Chopin Airport is preparing a planned runway renovation from September 18, which will last until November 10. For this reason, takeoffs and landings will take place over Włochy, Bemowo, Ochota, and Piaseczno.
Chopin Airport has two runways: a longer one, approximately 3,700 meters long (in the direction of 15/33) and a shorter one, 2,800 meters long (in the direction of 11/29).
– From September 18 to November 10 the renovation of runway no. 1 (11/29) will last. It is planned. Everything was discussed earlier, among others, with air carriers – said Andrzej Ilków, president of Polish Airports, which manages Chopin Airport. He added that during this time, renovation and modernization works will be carried out on the runway.
“During the works, all traffic at the airport will take place on runway number 3 (15/33), i.e. in the directions Piaseczno – Włochy, Ochota, Bemowo,” the airport reported.
The airport does not anticipate any disruptions
According to the port, despite the closure of one runway, the airport does not anticipate any disruptions to the operation of the Warsaw airport during the renovation.
“The works carried out are aimed at maintaining the highest level of technical efficiency of the airport infrastructure and thus ensuring safety for aircraft operating from Chopin Airport,” it was assured.
Chopin Airport in Warsaw is the largest airport in Poland. In the first eight months of this year, Chopin Airport handled 14 million 82 thousand 87 passengers.
In 2023, the airport served 18.5 million passengers, and in 2024 – according to forecasts – 20.5 million people will use its services, which is about 10 percent more than a year earlier.
