238 fines imposed, 46 registration certificates seized, 13 driving licenses taken away. This is the result of inspections carried out in recent days by the capital city police, mainly in the center of Warsaw. The action was aimed at drivers who make life miserable for residents with the roar of their car and motorcycle engines.
The Warsaw police conducted operations under the name “SILENT CITY II”. They focused mainly on controls in the very center of Warsaw, which is an arena for road pirates in tuned cars, especially on weekend nights.
Sonometers in use
The police used marked and unmarked police cars equipped with video recorders and control and measurement devices (sonometers).
“They are used to measure, among other things, the level of emitted noise and, where justified, also to test the light transmittance of car windows,” explained Asp. Kamil Sobótka from the Warsaw Police Headquarters in a press release.
The police assured that, where necessary, “they applied the measures provided for by law against drivers whose vehicles disturbed public peace by generating excessive noise”.
They also checked the technical condition of the cars. They also checked the drivers for their licenses, sobriety, and driving under the influence of drugs.
238 seats
From Tuesday to Friday they checked 259 vehicles, including 16 motorcycles. They issued 238 tickets, confiscated registration certificates from 46 drivers, and confiscated driving licenses from 13 drivers. They filed two applications for punishment, and two people were detained. They examined 33 vehicles with a sonometer.
As the Warsaw police remind us, a vehicle travelling on the roads should meet the appropriate technical requirements, including those concerning environmental protection. According to the Road Traffic Act, the use of a vehicle cannot disturb public peace.
The operation, called “SILENT CITY II”, was carried out by police officers from the Road Traffic Department, the Vehicle Crime Prevention Department and the Intelligence and Patrol Department, including the SPEED group.
