Warsaw and Kiev signed an agreement on the transfer of 81 series trains to the capital of Ukraine. The old Russian trains that have accompanied Warsaw residents since the opening of the first line will serve the residents of Kiev. Metro Warszawskie is planning a farewell ride with vehicle number 07.

Trains from the 81 series will be delivered to the capital of Ukraine. These are 60 wagons, i.e. 10 trains, worth over PLN 40 million. The first to leave the capital will be squad number 07, which will go to Kiev later this month. However, the agreement does not mean the end of the era of Russian warehouses in Warsaw. Today, the city has 22 such trains, which consist of 132 cars from various years of production.

However, it will be on the side of our eastern neighbors that, among others, organization of transport. Before the journey to Kiev, the cars will be dismantled, among others. Mirrors and current collectors (from the busbars) will also be removed for the duration of the ride so that they are not damaged.

All wagons prepared for shipment have valid certificates of technical efficiency. Their last repairs took place in 2017-2022. Individual trains of this series have traveled from 1 million 180 thousand. up to 2 million 430 thousand. kilometers.

Produced for over 30 years

Series 81 trains have been produced for Warsaw since 1989. They served passengers from the opening of the first line, and even earlier, when open days were organized with occasional transport. It is worth recalling that the first vehicle to set off on the route – from Wilanowska station towards the University of Technology – was vehicle number 03. It consisted of three cars with numbers 005, 406, 006, and the inaugural run of this train took place on April 7, 1995.

In the winter seasons, worn-out metro cars of the 81 series changed into Christmas trains – in recent years they were trains with numbers 10 and 13. They also took part in exercises of firemen and anti-terrorist units many times – both at stations and in the tunnels of the Warsaw metro.

Farewell ride on the “seven”

– In connection with the shipment of these wagons to Kiev, Metro Warszawskie plans to invite everyone willing to take part in the last, farewell ride in train No. 07 soon – said Monika Beuth, spokeswoman for the city hall. “Siódemka” is the first of the trains selected for transport. The wagons that are part of it were built in 1994 and 1997.
