The extraordinary session of the Warsaw Council regarding the sale of a tenement house at Marszałkowska was interrupted. Residents and representatives of tenant movements unsuccessfully tried to get to the meeting room. The entrance was prevented by city guards, and the audience was taken by activists of the Civic Platform. There was also an incident involving the Law and Justice MP Sebastian Kaleta.
The extraordinary session of the Warsaw Council began on Wednesday about the sale of a tenement house at 66 Marszałkowska Street. She was convened at the request of Law and Justice councilors who responded to the request of tenant associations. At the request of KO councilors, the session was interrupted and will continue only on June 5, i.e. after the presidential election.
Before the session, a conference was scheduled for the Vice President of the President of Warsaw Aldona Machnowska-Góra and councilors of the Civic Coalition, but it was drowned out by dozens of activists of tenant associations. There was a conference of PiS councilors with the participation of PiS deputies Sebastian Kalety and Piotr Gliński, during which MPs accused the President of Warsaw that he could not implement a sensible housing policy.
According to the city is ours, the residents interested in the session did not get to the meeting room, because the places in the audience were taken by activists of the Civic Platform. “Instead of residents, activists of the PO, 45 minutes before the start of the session, are blocking all places instead of residents. They block the entrance to ordinary residents. Shame” – the city pointed out is ours.
On social media published on social media you can see people who are trying to get to the meeting room. They are effectively prevented by city guards. – This is what democracy looks like in practice: partisans and their clients clap, and people cannot enter – told TVN24 reporter one of the men unaccrossed to the room. – We are standing in front of the door, although we convened this session. They meet in their own group and represent their interests and the richest clique that rules this city – he added.
– I saw at least a few capital politicians of the Civic Platform and at least two mayors. It is a bit embarrassing that the possibility of taking part in the session to other residents or tenant movements is limited, which perform a huge social work for the city and should be able to sit in the audience. Unfortunately, this opportunity was taken away from them – commented councilor Jan Mencwel from MJN.
“We will not participate in the Nawrocki campaign”
After the start of the session, the head of the KO club Jarosław Szostakowski took the floor, who reminded that the matter of selling the tenement house at Marszałkowska 66 councilors dealt with in November and then only seven people were against. – Why are we coming back to this topic now? – asked Szostakowski. “There is one answer: because we have an election campaign,” he said, emphasizing that this is demonstrated by the presence of PiS deputies in the room.
– We will not participate in the Nawrocki campaign. If any of the councilors think that we should, after the November session, discuss, please remember that this cannot be done when the election campaign is underway – emphasized the head of the club's wounded club.
He also applied for a break in the session until June 5. “If we are to talk, let's talk and do not lead a campaign,” he added.
In a similar tone, Aldona Machnowska-Góra commented on the matter. – It is no secret that this session will simply take place after the election. Housing policy, repairs of vacancy, housing and rent construction are the city's priority – she assured. – This time is not a time when you can easily conduct a discussion on this subject, and even listen to the criticism of the social side and opposition councilors – said the vice president of the capital. She emphasized that until June 5 there would be no sale of a tenement house.

The MP wanted to speak, the chairwoman did not agree
MP Sebastian Kaleta also entered the rostrum, but she did not allow him to speak, in accordance with the session statute, the chairwoman of the Council of Warsaw Ewa Malinowska-Grupińska. The exchange of sentences in terms of enabling him lasted at least a few minutes.
According to the Warsaw report, the chairman of the Warsaw Council consulted with lawyers in this matter. The patron serving the session indicated that the MP could speak if he was given to him by the chairwoman of the council. In response, Ewa Malinowska-Grupińska agreed to his speech, but she stated that it would be possible only after the break in the meeting, i.e. June 5.

Then PiS councilor Tomasz Herbich took the floor. “What you do in this room is insolent,” he said. He also noted that the mayors and deputy mayors inhabited in the grandstand in order not to let in the residents.
– This session was convened in response to the social party's appeal. Yes, we wanted to convene it in an election campaign, because at other times this social side would be heard? he added.
Then there was a vote in which councilors decided to stop the session and continue it after the election, June 5. 35 councilors voted for, 20 were against, and one councilor abstained.
Sale of a tenement house at Marszałkowska 66
On the pages of the Śródmieście district of Warsaw, on April 22, information appeared about the purpose of sales by tender for the city's participation in a tenement house at ul. Marszałkowska 66.
The spokesperson of the district Mateusz Węgrzyn reported that this tenement house requires general renovation and is entered in the register of monuments. He emphasized that that is why all renovation works in this building must take place under the supervision of a monument conservator, which issued specific recommendations.
– The renovation in 2024 was priced at nearly PLN 50 million. The need to carry out a general renovation and exercise the recommendations of a monument conservator regarding the reproduction of the old layout of apartments has changed the assumptions. That is why the sale of the city's participation in a tenement house began – said Węgrzyn.
He explained that tenants from this building have been gradually used to be tailored to the last few years. – Tenants received, in principle, spare premises for an indefinite, full -fledged and independent period. Meanwhile, there is a lack of central heating and hot utility water installation in the building at Marszałkowska 66, there is also no elevator – emphasized the spokesman for Śródmieście.
He also noted that “the process of possible sale of the city's participation in the tenement house has just begun.” – Importantly, final decisions have not yet been issued – the president did not announce the tender. The procedure for preparing for the sale of real estate is carried out in accordance with the regulations. In this case, a detailed procedure of administrative proceedings, which is transparent, applies – said Węgrzyn.
