The District Prosecutor's Office of Warsaw Wola is conducting an investigation into an incident that occurred at the Olimpia bazaar. On Sunday, during an intervention by plainclothes police officers, a man was shot. We know the preliminary findings of the investigators.
As reported by Piotr Skiba, spokesman for the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw, the prosecutor's office is conducting an investigation into the “causing of a gunshot wound”. He indicated that this is an act under Article 157, paragraph 1 of the Penal Code, which refers to causing “moderate or slight damage to health”. Investigators will also assess whether there was an assault on officers of the Warsaw Police Headquarters, in this case under Article 223, paragraph 1 of the Penal Code (“Active assault on a public official”).
Arrest, escape, shots fired at police officers
According to initial findings, on Sunday plainclothes officers of the Intelligence and Patrol Department of the KSP were on duty at the marketplace.
– As part of the above, they attempted to identify one of the men, who was holding several telephones in his hands. When the intervention was initiated, the man began to run away, throwing away the items he had been holding. After a short chase, the officers of the WWP KSP caught the man and attempted to overpower him when he tried to jump over the fence directly into the Olimpia Bazaar – indicated prosecutor Skiba.
According to the testimonies of witnesses heard so far, during the intervention, “the man lying on the ground spoke to the other man in a foreign language, who then pulled out an object resembling a gun and fired shots at the police officers from a distance of several meters.” – In response, one of the officers fired shots at the man. In the meantime, the first man broke free from the second officer and fled the scene together with the perpetrator using an object resembling a firearm – the spokesman said.

Bystander stabbed in the buttock
As a result of the incident – as indicated by the prosecutor – “a gunshot wound was sustained by a man who was a witness and eyewitness to the incident”. – According to the preliminary findings so far, the injured party has been found to have an entry and exit wound, as well as damage to the left buttock and pelvis – the prosecutor specified.
In the case, several witnesses were questioned, material evidence and forensic traces were secured, as well as monitoring recordings. – Currently, activities are being carried out to determine the important circumstances regarding the course of the event, as well as the identity of the perpetrators – summed up Piotr Skiba.

The police confirmed at the time that plainclothes officers were checking a man's identity near the Olimpia bazaar, at which time a shot was fired in their direction from the crowd, wounding a random man. The attacked police officers were forced to use their service weapons. The wounded 57-year-old was taken to hospital.
