Protest in Warsaw: On Thursday, January 9 at At 12, the “Solidarity” demonstration began in Warsaw. Trade unionists came to the capital from all over Poland to protest against, among others, phasing out coal units from 2025 in the Dolna Odra, Rybnik, Łaziska and Kozienice power plants and the planned one layoffs in the Polish Energy Group. The first petition on this matter is to be submitted there. However, after On the 13th, protesters reached the building of the Ministry of State Assets, where the second petition is to be submitted. The demonstration is scheduled to last until 16.
“Predatory Green Deal”: The chairman of NSZZ “Solidarność”, Piotr Duda, also took part in the protest and spoke out against the assumptions of the Green Deal. – At our request, a document called the “Predatory Green Deal” was prepared. It was the experts who prepared this report. (…) From this report you will find out what awaits us. And what awaits us the death of our workplaces and our economy. What does PGE say about this? The Polish Energy Group explains that coal is no longer an unprofitable source of energy. Currently, approximately 30 percent of the total demand in Poland is produced from it. Power plants are also being modernized.
Group layoffs: NSZZ “Solidarność”, the Trade Union Forum and the All-Poland Agreement of Trade Unions have submitted a common position on the draft act of October 9, 2024 amending the Restructuring Law and the Bankruptcy Law. Its purpose is to provide appropriate employee protection and access to information from their representatives on the planned restructuring regulations. Trade unionists point to: collective layoffs in Poczta Polska, PKP Cargo and Grupa Azoty.
