Warsaw. Storm damage, palace garden closed until further notice

The storm that passed over Warsaw on Monday afternoon caused serious damage to the park at King Jan III Sobieski's Palace in Wilanów. The museum authorities announced that the palace park would be closed until further notice.

“Dear guests, due to damage caused by the storm and strong winds, the park is closed until further notice,” the museum wrote.

After the storm that passed over Warsaw, city firefighters received over 150 reports. The reports mainly concern fallen trees that fell on houses and streets, as well as flooded garages and service premises. – In Targówek, lightning struck a lift, one person was injured – said junior captain Jakub Nowak from the municipal headquarters of the State Fire Service in Warsaw.

Collapsed roofs, flooded airport

A violent storm has affected the work of Chopin Airport. For several minutes, takeoffs and landings were suspended. The passenger terminal is partially closed.

The storm also affected neighboring counties. In the town of Chlebnia in the Grodzisk district, damage occurred to the roof of a hall in the logistics centre. The roof of the hall was also damaged in Natolin.

– In total, in the Żyrardów and Grodzisk counties we have reports of over 100 interventions, mainly related to flooding and broken trees. In Żyrardów, in the city center, the tunnel under the railway tracks flooded – informed the press spokesman of the Mazovian Provincial Commander of the State Fire Service, Brigadier Karol Kroć.
