Police from the North Praga police station have arrested a 28-year-old suspected of participating in an organized crime group involved in fraud. The man faces up to eight years in prison.
Police officers from the Property Crime Prevention Team were working to detain a man who was allegedly involved in an organized crime group that was carrying out fraud using the “legend method.” In such a case, the fraudster pretends to be someone they are not (a relative, police officer, bank employee, prosecutor) in order to extort money from the caller.
They were looking for him in Wrocław, Białystok and Germany.
The 28-year-old was wanted on arrest warrants by the Wrocław court and the District Prosecutor's Office in Białystok. In addition, the District Prosecutor's Office of Warsaw Praga-Północ issued an order to detain him and bring him to the detention center, and the Federal Republic of Germany sought to establish his whereabouts.
– The operatives made a number of findings regarding the 28-year-old and his criminal activity. The information they gathered helped to pinpoint the place where he could have appeared – informed Senior Superintendent Paulina Onyszko from the North Praga police station.
The officers went to the area of ​​Targowa Street. They noticed a man trying to escape. – The detectives overpowered him and detained him. The 28-year-old was taken in handcuffs to the police station on JagielloÅ„ska Street – Onyszko informed.
The police secured the found mobile phones, cash and jewelry. – After performing the necessary actions related to his arrest, the officers transported the 28-year-old to the detention center in BiaÅ‚oÅ‚Ä™ka – Onyszko said.
The man could spend more than eight years in prison.
