The construction of the Center for Child and Youth Psychiatry and Oncology is underway. – We were hoping that within twelve months we would be able to finish and equip this building. We know that currently due to raw material problems, construction workers will be delayed. We hope that in June 2024 we will be able to see the first patients – said Dr. Marek Migdał, director of the “Monument – Children’s Health Center” Institute on TVN24.
He is rising in Wawer Center for Child and Youth Psychiatry and Oncology. The TVN Foundation is financially responsible for the psychiatry segment. Children from all over the country will receive help here. It will be the first treatment center of this type in Poland, and is being built in concert and on the premises of the Children’s Health Center in Warsaw. Its construction started in 2021 and is to be completed in 2024.
On the premises of the future facility, it was held on Wednesday cornerstone laying ceremony. Dr. Marek Migdał, director of the “Monument – Children’s Health Center” Institute, spoke about the progress in the investment and the Wednesday ceremony on Sunday in “Get up and the weekend” on TVN24.
Progress on the construction of the Center for Child and Youth Psychiatry and Oncology
– During this ceremony, I was joking that we should actually put a panicle, because the building is still standing. Four floors, six thousand one hundred square meters. The construction is here. Now a very important stage: finishing the building to the developer standard. It will end in December this year. And this is the stage financed by the TVN Foundation – indicated the director.
Initially, it was planned that the investment would be ready at the end of 2023. The deadline for putting it into service will be slightly longer. In January 2023, the arrangement of the new facility will begin. – We were hoping that within twelve months we would be able to finish and equip this building. We know that currently due to raw material problems, construction workers will be delayed. We hope that in June 2024 we will be able to see the first patients – said Dr. Migdał.
The director admitted that there are not only infrastructural obstacles, but also the recruitment of personnel is a challenge. – We do a lot in this direction, we educate psychiatrists, we acquire new ones. We educate nurses who will look after patients. This time, at the same time, will allow us not only to complete the building, but also to create an enlarged complex of our center – he said.
– We know that the scale of needs is increasing. Not only because of the advances in medicine. Until ten years ago, little was known about the autism spectrum. As medicine has moved on, we are more and more often able to recognize disturbing symptoms earlier, even in children who are several years old – he explained.
As he described, more and more children and adolescents need support due to mental health disorders due to a pandemic, addictions – such as Internet addiction, and finally due to the war in Ukraine. He explained that all these factors are so-called chronic factors affecting the well-being of young people.
What help will the Center for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Oncology provide?
On six thousand square meters there will be inpatient and detoxification departments, day clinics and therapy rooms. The new building will also be used to treat children with cancer.
The Children’s and Youth Psychiatry Center will house a day care unit that will provide assistance to approximately 30 patients a day, and a stationary hospital unit with 32 beds (including six beds in the observation unit, four beds in the detoxification unit and 22 beds in the hospital ward). The Center will also have a psychiatric clinic with three doctor’s offices, two group therapy rooms, a family therapy room, a sexologist’s office and a treatment room.
The patients of the Center will have the opportunity to use the full diagnostics available at the Children’s Health Center, including tomography, MRI or a wide range of laboratory tests.

The center is created thanks to the support of donors
The psychiatry center will join the long list of projects implemented by the TVN Foundation. It includes, among others: Cancer Prevention Center, renovation of clinics in the largest Polish medical centers, equipment purchases, 20 new ambulances plus individual assistance for over 27,000 people under the care of the Foundation. All this would not be possible without the donations of Poles who trusted the Foundation.
