The chairman of Nowoczesna Adam Szłapka hit a 16-year-old girl riding a bicycle. The accident happened in Saska Kępa in April. On Thursday, the deputy was questioned. He announced that he would waive his immunity.

The accident happened on April 24. The portal tvp.info reported it first. The details of the event were described on Thursday by the Warsaw-Praga District Prosecutor’s Office.

“I would like to inform you that the Warsaw VII District Police Headquarters is investigating the road accident of Adam Szłapka, Member of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, which occurred on April 24, 2023 at the intersection of Urugwajska Street and Al. Warsaw,” prosecutor Katarzyna Skrzeczkowska said in a statement.

The 16-year-old suffered a head injury

“The findings of the proceedings show that the driver of a Toyota vehicle on a bicycle crossing collided with a 16-year-old girl driving a bicycle. According to forensic experts, the victim suffered bodily injuries in the form of, among others, a head injury with a fracture of the nasal bones with displacement , resulting in a health disorder for a period of more than seven days. Moreover, the findings of the proceedings show that the accident was caused by the driver of a Toyota vehicle as a result of failure to observe the rules of caution in road traffic, “said prosecutor Skrzeczkowska.

On June 15, Adam Szłapka was summoned for questioning.

“On June 15, 2023, the driver of the vehicle appeared for questioning at the Warsaw VII District Police Headquarters in order to announce charges of committing a crime under Article 177 § 1 of the Penal Code, i.e. a road accident as a result of which the injured party suffered injuries resulting in health disorder for a period of more than seven days,” the prosecutor added.

He said he was an employee of the Parliament

“When receiving personal data, the interrogated Adam Szłapka stated that he was an employee of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, and only after asking questions about the nature of his employment did he state that he was a member of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland. In view of the immunity protecting the MP, further steps were withdrawn and the case was referred to the prosecutor’s office” – she explained prosecutor.

In order to successfully charge a parliamentarian, the prosecutor’s office will have to ask the Sejm to waive his immunity. – The case is pending. I am in contact with both the victim and his family. When a motion to waive my immunity comes to the Sejm, I will immediately waive it – said Michał Szłapka, quoted by tvp.info.

Violation of road safety rules is punishable by up to three years in prison.
