Road workers have started installing Christmas illuminations. This year, however, it is changing its appearance and will take residents on a nostalgic journey to the 1950s and 1960s.
In line with the expectations of Warsaw residents who, according to a study conducted by the Municipal Roads Authority, cannot imagine winter without Christmas illuminations, road workers have started installing decorations on the capital’s streets. Christmas illumination has become a tradition for the inhabitants of Warsaw, and an opportunity for greater profit for the shops and restaurants located directly next to it.
Baubles in the shape of toadstools
“In the coming winter, retro-style decorations will shine on the city streets, referring to the 1950s and 1960s and taking residents on a nostalgic journey. Christmas decorations typical of the Polish People’s Republic will be presented in an unusual way, such as old Christmas tree lights, baubles in the shape of toadstools, but also crystals known from grandma’s cupboards,” road engineers announced in a statement.
The Royal Route and Świętokrzyska Street will be decorated using chains, decorations and lights. Additionally, there will be free-standing decorations and illuminations in the shape of relics from those years – including forgotten saturators and shop scales. For the youngest guests, there will also be an illumination of retro carousels and toys from the childhood of their parents and grandparents.

The Christmas tree will be placed on Castle Square
A 27-meter multimedia Christmas tree, which will be made of energy-saving and modern materials, will be placed on Castle Square. During evening winter walks, residents and tourists will also be able to admire figures in the shape of the unforgettable Syrenka car and the retro Ryś motorcycle.
According to ZDM, all illuminations are made of energy-saving eco-LEDs, which consume 10 times less electricity than traditional lighting, and Multidekor is responsible for their production, assembly, care, disassembly and storage until the next season, as in previous years. . New decorations will start to please the eye in the first days of December.
