Jan Rembiszewski died former director of the capital's zoo. He managed the facility for 26 years, until 2008. “Modern pavilions were created during his term. Many catwalks were modernized,” said the zoo.
“We inform you with great pain that at the age of 86, the director of the Warsaw ZOO Dr. Jan Maciej Rembiszewski, the Warsaw Zoo, left,” wrote the capital's zoo in social media.
Jan Rembiszewski was born on October 18, 1938 in Warsaw. He studied at the Faculty of Biology at the University of Warsaw, and then worked at the Institute of Zoology of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
In 1969 he obtained a doctorate in biological sciences. He was a member of four Antarctic expeditions, the head of two of them, the author of nearly a hundred scientific and popular science publications.
He was the director of the Warsaw Zoo in 1982 and held it until the end of 2008.

Zoo modernized
“During his term, modern pavilions were created, including herpetarium, birdie and elephant. Many catwalks were modernized, thanks to which the living conditions improved to the animals, and the visits to the visitors – the possibilities of their observation” – said the Zoo in the entry.
For several terms, he was the chairman of the Council of Polish Directors of the ZOO, a member of the State Council of Nature Conservation, as well as the European and World Association of Zoological Gardens and Aquariums.
In 1998, students of the 1st Polish Radio Program, readers of “Evening Express” and WOT viewers appreciated his work and Jan Maciej Rembiszewski was elected Warsaw in 1997. He was also awarded the medal of the 350th anniversary of Prague, 400th anniversary of Warsaw, the Golden Cross of Merit and the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Reborn of Poland.
