Three years after its closure, the playground in Ujazdowski Park was put into use. This is an extremely unlucky investment. It was closed due to the technical condition of the toys. The contractor refused to repair it under warranty. Further tenders for renovation were announced, but only the third time was successful.

“We have made the playground in Ujazdowski Park available to residents after completing the necessary renovation works and obtaining a new safety certification,” informed the Green Area Management Board in Warsaw.

“The contractor for the renovation works was selected in June 2023 after two unsuccessful tenders. During the work, there was a need to additionally replace some wooden elements or ropes in the inverted rope. We also decided to perform the necessary work on several devices, which will result in more efficient work in the future maintenance. The equipment and surfaces on the playground were checked by an external company, which approved the results of the work with a new safety certificate,” we read in a statement from the Warsaw Green Park.

As we reported on tvnwarszawa.pl, One company entered the third and last tender. And although the submitted offer exceeded the assumed budget three times, the contract was signed – it was worth nearly PLN 4 million (PLN 300,000 more than the construction cost). Taking into account renovations, eight million zlotys have been pumped into the playground so far.

Unlucky playground

The playground in Ujazdowski Park, opened in July 2019, was plagued by problems from the very beginning. It was definitely decommissioned in August 2021because the technical condition of the toys threatened the safety of children, which was confirmed by an expert opinion commissioned by officials.

Problems began at the construction stage. The first contractor did not fulfill the contract, the second one had to deal with the weather and changes in the rules for toy certification.

When the square was finally opened after a two-year delay, the first problems with the attractions appeared after a month. The square was also closed due to winter, even when the temperatures were above freezing.

After the site closed more than two years ago, the contractor refused to repair it under warranty. In a statement sent to our editorial office, he explained that the defects were caused, among others, by improper use of toys by children and adults, acts of vandalism and lack of proper maintenance of the devices.

The Green Area Management Board announced that it would seek reimbursement of the money spent on renovation in court while the playground was still under warranty.
