The reconstruction of the part of Defilad Square in front of the main entrance to the Palace of Culture and Science has ended. The first thing that catches the eye that greenery came. But there are also historical references. The layout of pavements and greenery reflects the network of pre -war streets. Historic candelabra was also restored. The opening will be boisterous, Brass Federation and Warsaw Dance Combo will play.
Plac Defilad at the height of Złota Street was a huge concrete desert. The concept of its reconstruction assumed the creation of a more intimate and green square.
According to the first assumptions, the works were to last a year and end in the summer of 2024. However, the deadline was postponed in the spring of 2025. The town hall explained that it was extended by archaeological works and the fact that part of the square was annexed to the facilities of the construction of the Museum of Modern Art. Finally, construction works lasted almost two years.

Over 100 trees and 500 shrubs
In Central Square, as the town hall calls this part of Plac Defilad, greenery arrived. Gardeners planted nearly 550 shrubs and over 81,000 onion plants and perennials. 102 trees also appeared. These include lindens, ash, Glediczje, Dereni, Grounds, Ginkles and Magnolia. The highest specimens are over seven meters high, the lowest – about three.
The trees were placed for anti -compression purposesreminiscent of large boxes. Inside, there was a soil rich in nutrients. “Thanks to this, the trees are immediately provided with 'food' needed for development Under the surface of the square there are four retention tanks, whose task is to collect rainwater.
Beeings were placed around the trees so that you can relax in the shade. There are including 106 seats.

Mesh of pre -war streets applied
The square was built between the Museum of Modern Art and the Palace of Culture and Science. It connects the central part of Plac Defilad with the park at the intersection of ÅšwiÄ™tokrzyska and MarszaÅ‚kowska Streets. The layout of pavements and greenery reflects the network of pre -war streets and outlines of buildings. “It is a historic nod to residents and tourists visiting this place,” the town hall noted.
The surface of the square consists of five different types of stone. The outline of old buildings was made of large -format stone slabs. “The former courtyards covered the pavement in the form of re -used cube from Plac Defilad, which is complemented by granite slabs from the vicinity of the former honorary tribune. The street layout from 1939 resemble belts arranged from granite cubes. Attention is drawn to the alley, which is drawn to the alley, which from leaving the metro station directs guests immediately to the square” – explained the city hall.

As described in the press release, the reconstructed honorary tribune architects integrated into the square so that it referred to the post -war history of this place. At the same time, they gave her a new dimension. Trybuna was green – small trees and flower discounts were on its steps from the palace side. The upper level was prepared so that it can be used as a stage. Also, the architekci planned part of the square between the tribune and MarszaÅ‚kowska Street as a mass events zone.
