Road workers showed how the roundabout at the intersection of Branickiego and Sarmacka streets has changed. Thanks to the traffic lights, drivers have gained additional lanes, and pedestrians will be able to feel safer. Cyclists can also be happy, for whom crossings have been designated.

Before the roundabout built years ago, Branickiego Street widens to three lanes. Two of them have remained closed until now. After the announced construction of traffic lights the concrete barriers separating them disappeared and additional lanes were made available to drivers.

The previous roundabout has not disappeared. However, the road system has been slightly rebuilt. An additional bicycle crossing has also been created (through the northern entrance to the roundabout from Sarmacka Street). Thanks to this, the intersection is now complete. More greenery has also appeared.

Are traffic lights needed here, since there is a roundabout there? “Roundabouts definitely help to organize traffic and increase safety. A good example of this was the temporary roundabout at the intersection of Branickiego Street and Rzeczypospolitej Avenue,” the Warsaw Municipal Roads Authority said in a statement on the subject.

After opening of the Warsaw Southern Bypass However, many things have changed on Branickiego Street. An extension of the street has been opened, which allows you to leave the expressway just before entering the tunnel and connects Wilanów with Ursynów. On the other side, there is a connection with Przyczółkowa Street.

As road workers note, all this causes increased traffic on Branickiego Street. In order to properly direct this traffic, traffic lights had to be built. They had to be there especially for the safety of pedestrians. “As part of the pedestrian crossing audit in 2016-2020, zebra crossings on Branickiego Street were rated 1, 2, 3 and 3, while those on Sarmacka Street were rated 2, 2 and 2,” the road workers remind.

Road improvements in Miasteczko Wilanów

The construction of traffic lights at the intersection of Branickiego and Sarmacka streets is another road improvement for Miasteczko Wilanów. There have been quite a few of these recently. Last year, Branickiego Street (the Przyczółkowa-Sarmacka section) received a second carriageway. Shortly afterwards, the rebuilt intersection of Branickiego, Przyczółkowa and Vogla streets was opened for use.

In 2020, the POW section from the Lubelska junction to the Wilanów junction was commissioned. A year later, the remaining section with tunnel. Even before the tunnel was opened, drivers could use the aforementioned extension of Branickiego Street. Earlier, we had completed the extension of Sarmacka Street. Thanks to it, a new entrance to Miasteczko from Wilanowska Avenue was created.
