118 large trees will be planted in the center of Warsaw by the end of this year. On Monday, the president of the capital, Rafał Trzaskowski, and his deputy, Michał Olszewski, planted the first few.
– By December, in the very center of the city, so far gray and dominated by concrete and asphalt, almost a hectare of greenery will appear. It is more than the area of a football field, said the president of the capital, Rafał Trzaskowski, at a press briefing on Monday.
38 seven-meter silver limes
According to the announcement of the town hall, on the western side of Marszałkowska Street, between the Dmowskiego and Świętokrzyska roundabouts, there will be 38 seven-meter-high silver lindens. This complements the reconstruction of the western part of this street, which includes a new pavement, bicycle path and parking spaces. – This is an important moment. Please look around, the announcements are over, there is something happening everywhere and the effects of our work are already beginning to be visible – added the president.
As officials recalled, to the south of the place where the lime tree was built, the area around the Dmowski roundabout is being rebuilt. There will be pedestrian crossings leading at the pavement level directly to tram stops, bicycle crossings and greenery at the roundabout and in the corners, including 58 trees. In turn, to the north, the reconstruction of the intersection of Marszałkowska and Królewska is underway, an element of which is the plateau of the corners of the intersection under the greenery.
The center will gain a hectare of new green space
The Office assured that the most effective change will be Pięć Rogów Square, where 22 field maples, 8-9 meters high, will be erected. The entire square will be a pedestrian zone with allowed bicycle traffic, few buses along ul. Szpitalna and residents’ commuting. In total, this year the city center will gain approximately one hectare of new green space, with 118 trees, bushes and low greenery.
But – as the town hall declared – this is not the end of changes within the New Center of Warsaw. – In the summer, we concluded an architectural competition for the development of Chmielna Street. The second, for Zgoda and Złota Streets, is currently underway – 23 works were submitted in the first stage. Changes are also awaiting ul. Krucza, which in total will be a natural extension of the changes to the so-called pl. Pięć Rogów – said in turn the vice-president Michał Olszewski.
In addition, officials recalled that further northern and southern sections of Marszałkowska were also planned. “In such a way as to transform the entire street between Plac Bankowy and Plac Konstytucji into a comfortable city artery with lines of trees, which can be easily used by pedestrians, cyclists, passengers and drivers. from 2024 renovation of the cross-city line) “- we read in the announcement of the town hall.
