The bicycle thieves were caught red-handed by police officers from the Warsaw Włochy police station. What the couple from Slovakia were doing was observed by the officer on duty at the local police station, who was off duty. The 42-year-olds wanted to leave by tram with the bikes they had stolen a moment earlier. At the sight of the patrol, the man ran away, leaving his partner and the bikes at the stop.
The officer on duty at the Warsaw Włochy Police Station on his day off from duty in the area of Grójecka Street noticed and recognized a man who had stolen bicycles in the past.
– The policeman observed a man he “knew” unhooking bicycles from their racks, walking them through and handing them over to a woman waiting by the housing estate. The woman with the bicycles headed towards the tram stop. After a moment, she was joined by a man who was constantly being watched by the officer on duty – said Małgorzata Gębczyńska, spokeswoman for the Ochota police, in a press release.

“He fled, leaving his partner behind”
The intelligence officers, informed about everything, went to the indicated location. – When they set off towards the couple waiting for the tram, the man ran away, leaving his partner and the “stuff” at the stop. The police officers gave chase and after a dozen or so seconds the thief was already in the hands of the intelligence officers,” informs the press officer.
The incident was recorded by police body cameras.
The 42-year-old man and 42-year-old woman are Slovak citizens. Investigators from the property crime department, after collecting all the evidence, charged them with stealing 16 bicycles.
Some of the stolen bikes were recovered and will be returned to their owners. At the request of the District Prosecutor's Office of Warsaw Ochota, the court decided to temporarily arrest the 42-year-old Slovak citizens for a period of three months. They face five years in prison.
The proceedings in the case are supervised by the Warsaw-Ochota District Prosecutor’s Office.
