Police from Warsaw's Śródmieście district have reported the arrest of seven people suspected of fraud. – They rented cars, then forged documents for them and sold them at reduced prices on online advertising platforms – the city's police officers describe the procedure.
The suspects, as Jakub Pacyniak, spokesman for the city centre police, reports, rented cars from a rental company and then forged documentation, creating, among other things, false invoices, temporary permits and registration certificates. – The fakes were deceptively similar to authentic documents – the spokesman says.
One of the participants was responsible for removing rental company symbols from cars, then delivered ready-to-sell cars to his partners, who met with buyers. “In one case, they took advance payments from a group of people interested in buying the same car, then sold it to several people at the same time, arranging collection for the next day,” Pacyniak describes.
They encouraged with attractive prices
Cars ready for sale were displayed on internet advertising platforms at very attractive prices, and interest in them was high.
– The suspects ran their criminal business not only in Warsaw, but throughout Poland. One of the vehicles was recovered in Małopolska. The total amount of losses could reach even several hundred thousand złoty – informs the spokesman of the city centre police station.
Up to eight years in prison
Six people have been charged with fraud and document forgery, among other things. A 21-year-old Ukrainian citizen and a 39-year-old Polish citizen were temporarily arrested for three months by a court decision at the request of the District Prosecutor's Office of Warsaw Praga-Północ. Two other people have been placed under supervision. They could face up to eight years in prison. The case, as the police assure, is of a developing nature.
