There was no deterioration of air quality in the area of ​​the entrances to the tunnel in Ursynów. This is the result of research developed and analyzed by experts. Measurements were carried out at both tunnel exits.

Scope of the post-implementation analysis for the Southern Bypass of Warsaw was determined by the Regional Director for Environmental Protection in Warsaw. The study includes, among other things, analyzes of the noise level in the areas along the Puławska-Lubelska S2, as well as air and soil measurements in the investment area, Małgorzata Tarnowska, spokeswoman for the Warsaw branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, informed.

– The effectiveness of the minimizing devices used was assessed and the need for additional protection was demonstrated in places where the standards were exceeded in areas subject to acoustic protection, including for new housing development – emphasized Tarnowska.

“There is no threat to the inhabitants”

During the analysis, measurements and air tests in the vicinity of the tunnel near Ursynów were also performed. – From September 2021 to the end of 2022, measurements and tests of atmospheric air were carried out in the vicinity of the facility near Ursynów. Data was collected at both tunnel exits. They concerned the concentration of nitrogen dioxide, particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) and benzene in the air, she said. – The tests were carried out round the clock for 365 days on the launch pads and for a minimum of 70 measurement days a year in the area of ​​the portals. The results developed and analyzed by experts did not show any deterioration in air quality in the area of ​​the tunnel inlets in Ursynów. So, there is no threat to the residents, he added.

The analysis documentation was submitted to the environmental protection authorities. – After verifying the material on its basis, an appropriate administrative decision will be issued, then we will be able to proceed with further actions – she assured.

A new section of the S2 route

On December 22, 2021, drivers entered for the first time an approx. 14-kilometer section of the S2 expressway between the Warszawa Wilanów and Lubelska junctions. A year later, another approx. 4.5 km of S2 with a tunnel near Ursynów was opened to traffic. – The S2 expressway improved the exit from the capital towards Siedlce and Lublin, and also connected the A2 motorway on the western and eastern sides of Warsaw – noted Tarnowska.

The construction of the S2 expressway on the Puławska – Lubelska section was co-financed by the European Union from the Cohesion Fund under the Operational Program Infrastructure and Environment for 2014-2020. The amount of co-financing from EU funds for three implementation sections with a total length of 18.6 km amounted to approx. PLN 1.7 billion.
