Construction of the new building of the University of Warsaw is scheduled to begin in November at Bednarska Street. The modern building will house the departments of Journalism, Information and Bibliology and Economic Sciences, as well as the Academic Radio Kampus.
On November 14, an agreement was signed between the University of Warsaw and the general contractor of the investment at 2/4 Bednarska Street, the Karmar company.
The building of the University of Warsaw in Powiśle will be used by students, PhD students and employees of the Faculty of Journalism, Information and Bibliology (WDIB) and the Faculty of Economic Sciences (WNE). The new building will also house the university radio station – Akademickie Radio Kampus.
Right next to the pedestrian and bicycle bridge on the Vistula River
The building will be built in the area between Bednarska, Dobra, Nowy Zjazd and Wybrzeże Kościuszkowskie streets. It will be connected to the building of the former Baths of Teodozja Majewska, the current seat of WDIB and the radio station. The facility will be located right next to the crossing under the Wisłostrada River and 300 meters from the pedestrian and bicycle footbridge over the Vistula River.
– The new building to be built in Powiśle is one of the largest university investments. Thanks to its implementation, favorable working and learning conditions will be created for employees, students and doctoral students of the university. Creating modern teaching and research spaces in which it will be possible to use innovative technologies will contribute to the development of interdisciplinary research and education at the university – says prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, rector of the University of Warsaw.
Laboratories, studios, library and roof garden
In addition to lecture and seminar rooms, the building will include, among others: television, radio and photography studios, Media Research Laboratory, computer laboratories, conference rooms, social, administrative and service rooms. The reading room, arranged as an open space, will include places for team and individual work.
The central meeting place in the building will be a three-story agora – hall, which will connect all parts of the building designed around it. – The multi-level internal agora and other common elements in the building will strengthen the openness of the university and integrate the academic community. They will also enable more flexible use of space, adapted to the changing needs of the university – notes Prof. Ewa Krogulec, Vice-Rector of the University of Warsaw for Development.
The facility will include amenities for people with physical, hearing and visual disabilities, as well as pro-ecological solutions. On level minus one there will be a parking lot with chargers for electric cars. There is a garden on the roof. There will also be greenery on patios and terraces.
Construction will take three years and will cost over PLN 205 million
Construction of the building will start in the second half of November. Its completion is planned for the second half of 2027. The contract with Karmar signed by the university authorities on November 14 is worth almost PLN 205 million. The design of the building was prepared by the BBGK Architekci studio (read more about the architectural concept>>>).
– We are glad that the project contractor was Karmar, with whom we have experience in cooperation on demanding construction projects – noted Robert Gray, Chancellor of the University of Warsaw.
