Warsaw. This oak “appeared” in “The Witcher”. Will he become a natural monument?

A petition appeared in the network to the Warsaw authorities to honor the status of a monument to a pedunculate oak at Jagiellońska Street in Praga North. The tree would be called “Geralt oak”, just like the main hero of the computer game. Prague oak appeared in it as one of the important locations.

High pedunculate oak at the Golędzin tram stops in Praga North, it is impossible not to notice. It is spreading, also rich in the spring season. This majestic tree may soon become a natural monument. The petition to the President of Warsaw and the City Council in this matter beats popularity records on the web. For several days, over 22.5 thousand people signed it.

The oak “played” in the iconic game

As the authors of the petition indicate Mateusz Nowicki and Jan Mencwel, a councilor of Warsaw representing the Lewica club – the city is ours, oak is distinguished by its size. Its breast circuit is four meters, which means that it meets the criterion regarding the recognition of live and inanimate nature for nature monuments. In addition, the tree is in very good condition, lushly foliage. “The story of a tree is also unique, which was most likely planted in this place in the nineteenth century (the exact age of the tree needs to be determined)” – emphasize the authors of the petition.

“To the status of a natural monument, in addition to the size exceeding the required statutory circumference of the tree and its excellent condition, they are also predatinated with an unusual story related to the tree. This oak 'played' because the role in the iconic computer game 'The Witcher 3: Dziki Gon', where it was placed as one of the important locations Jagiellońska ” – indicate the originators.

“The company's representatives admit that the characteristic tree that they see from the windows of their offices has been placed in it intentionally. It is also worth noting that in the Praga -Północ district there is currently only one natural monument, establishing a new tree with this status would therefore be a great enrichment of local heritage” – reads the petition.

How was the idea born to honor the oak from Golędzinów in this way?

– I drew attention to this oak a long time ago, because it is really spectacular. I was thinking about reporting it as a natural monument. I uploaded a photo of this tree on Instagram. One of my observers wrote that this oak appears in the game. That's why I came up with the idea to refer to this fact. And so this petition and the slogan “Geralt Oak” were created- says tvnwarszawa.pl councilor Jan Mencwel.

– The application in this case must first be received by the City Hall. Officials must give an opinion on it. Finally, the Warsaw Council decides. In this case, the oak has over a meter more circuit than required in the regulation, so as few deserve the status of a natural monument. In addition, the tree is in very good condition – indicates our interlocutor. – It's a bit off the beaten track so hardly anyone associates them. I assume that as we call them Geralt in combination with the fact that CD Projekt has an office opposite, a tree could become a local tourist attraction – adds Mencwel.

What does the Ministry's Regulation say?

The ordinance of the Minister of the Environment regarding nature monuments indicated that a tree he pretends to be such a status must stand out “among other trees of the same type or species in a country, voivodship or commune, due to the circumference of the trunk, height, width of the crown, age, occurrence in clusters, including alleys or ranges, cutting or other morphological features, as well Scientific, cultural, historical or landscape. ”

“As this year is the 10th anniversary of the” Witcher 3 “game, this is a great opportunity to establish such a monument and at the same time promoting Warsaw as a green city that cares about the natural environment” – sums up the authors of the petition.
