Tramwaje Warszawskie announced a tender for the reconstruction of the tracks at Rondo Daszyńskiego. There will be one turn, and separate turning tracks will be built on Towarowa.

Tramwaje Warszawskie is looking for a contractor who will prepare full documentation needed for the reconstruction of Rondo Daszyńskiego.

Separate turning lanes

“After the track reconstruction, trams will be able to turn in three directions, this was not possible before. Another change we want to introduce at this intersection is to increase the number of tracks on Towarowa Street. Trams turning towards Prosta and Kasprzak will have their own, separated tracks to turn,” the tram drivers said. The tracks will be partially greened.

The published map shows that the concept does not assume the construction of a full “star”, enabling turns in every direction. Why? – Traffic forecasts have shown that the use of the turn for trams traveling on Towarowa, from the Zawisza roundabout and turning into Prosta from the ONZ roundabout, could be small – replied Maciej Dutkiewicz, spokesman for Tramwaje Warszawskie.

Work before 2030

Tramwaje Warszawskie plans to open offers in the tender on March 25, 2024.

“The contractor we choose will have 101 weeks to prepare full documentation and agree on it. The reconstruction of the roundabout is planned by 2030, although the choice of the date will depend on other investments” – explained the tram drivers, and gave as an example the reconstruction of the cross-town railway line, which is being prepared and still postponed. “Until the reconstruction of the roundabout, we will carry out planned renovation and maintenance works,” they added.
