Warsaw Trams have settled the tender for the contractor of the tram to Kasprzaka. The procedure was won by Strabag, which lowered the price by over PLN 50 million during the electronic auction. However, the contract can only be signed after September 2, when the deadline for submitting appeals has expired. The construction of the route is to be completed in 2023.
Last summer, the town hall announced a tender for the construction of a tram to Kasprzaka. Seven companies applied, and six of them submitted offers close to the planned budget, which amounted to just over PLN 240 million gross.
However, the procedure includes an electronic auction. This one took place in June. According to the portal transport-publiczny.pl, Budimex took the lead at that time, reducing the price to PLN 199.5 million, but ultimately it is not this company that will build the new route. Why? As Maciej Dutkiewicz, spokesman of Warsaw Trams explains, Budimex did not extend the bid bond. According to the portal’s findings, Strabag originally proposed the amount of PLN 260.6 million, but during the auction it went down by over 50 million – to PLN 205.4 million gross.
“There were 6 cancellations in the entire tender and this was what determined the length of the tender. After selecting the offer, we only have two companies in the game. The remaining ones were excluded due to, for example, the failure to extend the bid bond” – wrote Dutkiewicz on Twitter.
In an interview with us, he added that the third offer (from Aldesa Construcciones for over PLN 230 million) is more expensive than the second, which indicates the choice of Strabag. The contract, however, can only be signed when there are no appeals and the result of the proceedings becomes final. The contractors have until September 2 to cancel.
According to tram drivers, the investment will take 20 months to complete, but this does not include winter periods from mid-December to mid-March, unless the weather allows the work to be carried out at that time. Construction is to be completed in 2023.
Over two kilometers of a new tram route
The new section between Wolska and Skierniewicka will be 2.3 kilometers long. The investment also involves the modernization of approximately 1.2 km of the existing tracks on Wolska and Kasprzaka Streets. Passengers will be able to use six new stops: at Płocka, at the Warszawa Wola railway stop and at Ordona.
– The tram route will run along the rapidly expanding housing estates in Odolany. Tory on Kasprzaka Street, as on Grochowska Street, will be planted with greenery. The new route will provide quick access to two metro stations – Rondo Daszyńskiego and Rondo ONZ. The travel time on the newly built section of the route will not exceed 15 minutes. In the future, the route along Kasprzak will be able to connect with two others towards the Warszawa Zachodnia station, informed the town hall last year.
Crossing Wolska / Redutowa / Kasprzaka trams will cover in the excavation:
Tram to Wilanów
In the future, the tracks to Kasprzaka are to be connected with two “mustaches” leading to the Western Railway Station. The 20-kilometer line that will connect Wola via Ochota and Mokotów with Wilanów will begin here. In the investment task, this episode was named A, but it is not a priority. Tram drivers plan to build it only after 2023.
