Before midnight, the transport of elements of the huge TBM shield will set off from the Lubelska junction along the S17 expressway towards Lublin. Around 5 am, the convoy with a 500-ton load should reach Wola Korycka.
On the night from Saturday to Sunday, the convoy of the TBM machine, which is to drill a tunnel on the S19 Rzeszów – Babica (Podkarpackie) section, traveled the section from Janki node to Lubelska node. From here on Sunday at 11 p.m. it will set off on the S17 expressway towards Lublin. Małgorzata Tarnowska, spokeswoman for the Warsaw branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, told PAP during the passage of the convoy on the S17 expressway between the Lubelska junction and the Gończyce junction.
Stops are planned to unload congestion
– We ask drivers to use alternative routes whenever possible. At the Otwock interchange around midnight, traffic jams created behind the column will be unloaded using the interchange roundabout (under S17). Around 1 a.m., the traffic jam created behind the column will be unloaded using the collecting and distributing road at the Kołbiel interchange, she explained.
She emphasized that a 45-minute break was planned during the convoy at the Lipówki junction, which will last from 2.15 to 3. During this time, traffic will be routed along the collecting and distributing road, which also serves MOP Pilawa.
– On the Garwolin bypass, around 4 am, it will be possible to stop the TBM column, allowing the congestion to be unloaded in the area of the Garwolin Zachód junction (for vehicles with a total weight of up to 10 tonnes heading towards Lublin, a detour through Garwolin is recommended). Around 4.30 am, the TBM column will make it possible to unload the road jam in the area of the Górzno junction – she explained.
It will reach the border of the provinces in the morning
On Monday, around 5.30 am, the transport of the TBM machine should reach MOP Wola Korycka, where the convoy is scheduled to stay until 10 pm.
A spokeswoman for the Warsaw branch of GDDKiA noted that such large elements had not yet been transported on Polish roads. The total weight of the transported cargo is almost 500 tons. – We appeal to all drivers to be careful and follow the signs and the changed traffic organization introduced for the duration of the journey – she appealed.
– The convoys will have specialized protection. These will include VMS boards (variable message signs), mobile crash pads behind the column, pilots directing traffic and local police support, Małgorzata Tarnowska said.
