The New Year’s Eve Animal Patrol will help animals for whom New Year’s Eve is a nightmare. In Warsaw and the Pomeranian Voivodeship, it will respond to signals about animals scared by the noise of firecrackers and fireworks.

On New Year’s Eve, OTOZ Animals will once again help animals scared by the noise of firecrackers and fireworks. This year, the action is organized under the name New Year’s Eve Animal Patrol and will take place in Warsaw and the Pomeranian Voivodeship.

“The most difficult days of the year are beginning not only for our little ones, but also for wild animals. Firecrackers and fireworks used to entertain humans cause the death of many defenseless creatures. Not everyone is aware of the tragedy of animals, which is why we appeal to give up fireworks or at least limit them quantity!” – OTOZ Animals appealed on social media.

What is the New Year’s Eve Animal Patrol?

This is a social initiative coordinated by OTOZ Animals to help animals scared by the noise of firecrackers and fireworks on New Year’s Eve. “With our actions, we want to support the services responsible for securing escaping animals, who will have an exceptionally busy job that night,” Animalsi explains.

Patrol crews will set off on the streets of Warsaw and the Pomeranian Voivodeship on New Year’s Eve.

– The New Year’s Eve Animal Patrol in the Pomeranian Voivodeship will travel all night long, responding to signals about lost animals, which die in thousands in stress and panic, being killed under the wheels of cars or getting lost and no longer finding their way home – said the president of the Polish Society for the Protection of Animals OTOZ Animals Ewa Gebert.

– Nine cars will hit the roads in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, two each in Gdynia, Gdańsk and the so-called Little Kashubian Tricity and one car each in Kościerzyna, Tczew and Starogard Gdański – it said.

The president of OTOZ Animals said that in order to reduce the animal’s stress during New Year’s Eve, you can, for example, prepare a quiet shelter for it, lined with blankets to muffle the noise at least a little. – You can also close the curtains and turn on music, this will allow the animals to spend the night safely – added Gebert.

She appealed not to let dogs out without a leash. It is also worth ensuring that the animal is properly marked in case it escapes.

Emergency telephone numbers, where you can report the intervention

A patrol will be sent to the site of the report, which will secure the animal, read the chip, contact the animal’s owner, and, if necessary, transport it to a veterinary clinic or shelter.

Crews of the New Year’s Eve Animal Patrol will be on duty in Warsaw on December 31, 2023, from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. on January 1, 2024. The emergency phone line will also be open during these hours. In the Pomeranian Voivodeship, the New Year’s Eve Animal Patrol will run all night long.
