As part of the “Roots of Memory” campaign, another 19 insurgents were commemorated in the park in Wola. Their families attended the ceremony. At each of the maples and ashes, there was a plaque with the name of the insurgent whose story was told as part of the action. These are people whose descendants applied to the project and recorded their memories of their ancestor.

– This is a unique project because it combines the present, the past and the future. The entire program is an emanation of respect for people from the past and what they have passed on to the next generations. We are grateful to the families of the insurgents and insurgents for not only caring about their memory, but also sharing these stories with us. Because it is important to draw conclusions from the past, to remind people how tragic the consequences of war and hatred are, said Deputy Mayor of Warsaw Aldona Machnowska-Góra during the Saturday ceremony.

Trees with the names of the insurgents

“Roots of Remembrance” is a series of initiatives that build the community of descendants of the Warsaw Insurgents, these are recordings of conversations with their families, cyclical actions of unveiling plaques or annual meetings for the families of the Insurgents.

The director of the Warsaw Rising Museum, Jan Ołdakowski, told about it. – We are here because it is not indifferent to you that your ancestor was a Warsaw insurgent. Today we unveil the plaques and in this way we symbolically give the name of an insurgent or an insurgent to a tree. A tree lives longer than a person, and we want the memory of the insurgents to live longer and help us live – he said.
