Robert Soszyński announced his resignation from the position of the vice-president of the capital during the Thursday session of the Warsaw Council. He also announced that President Rafał Trzaskowski had already accepted his resignation. The decision to appoint a successor is to be made in early September. Soszyński was responsible in the town hall, among others, for real estate management and matters related to re-privatization.
The information about the departure of Robert Soszyński from the city hall was announced by “Gazeta Stołeczna” over the weekend. On Thursday it was confirmed by the outgoing vice president. – I would like to formally inform you that I asked Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski to accept my resignation at the end of this month – Soszyński said during a session of the city council. – The president gave his consent. My mission in the town hall is coming to an end – he informed.
Soszyński also thanked all the councilors for their cooperation during his work in the town hall.
When will we meet Soszyński’s successor?
Earlier, the information about his resignation due to “new challenges” was confirmed by a spokeswoman for the town hall. – The vice president himself resigned from his function. The farewell to colleagues took place in a pleasant atmosphere – Monika Beuth-Lutyk told the Polish Press Agency. – Decisions on the appointment of a successor will be made in September after President Rafał Trzaskowski returns from a short leave – added the spokeswoman.
Soszyński was appointed vice president at the end of 2018. He was responsible, among others, for infrastructure, geodesy, real estate management and matters related to re-privatization. He supervised the Office of Geodesy and Cadastre, Infrastructure Office, City and State Treasury Office, Office of Decree Affairs. At the beginning of February, the Mayor of Warsaw took away from him supervision over the Mobility and Transport Policy Bureau, handed this unit over to Michał Olszewski. We then heard unofficially in the town hall that the cup of bitterness was overwhelmed by the case of ul. Sokratesa, where, one year after the loud accident, the works aimed at improving safety had not started. In practice, the loss of supervision over an important office meant the degradation of Soszyński.
“Hamulcowy”, “Kierwiński’s man”
From the very beginning, he was considered a man imposed on Rafał Trzaskowski by the party (in the person of Marcin Kierwiński). In the eyes of city activists, it was a brake on projects aimed at improving the situation of pedestrians and cyclistscaring primarily for the interests of drivers. The Miasto Jest Nasz association accused him of being sluggish in implementing changes and criticized him for the approach which, in their opinion, was primarily aimed at capacity. The crowning evidence was the ground pedestrian crossings around the Dmowskiego roundabout, which were stuck in the Mobility Office for many months, where they were officially “consulted and analyzed”. This put Trzaskowski in an awkward position, who repeatedly promised them guidelines.
After the removal of Vice President Soszyński, the office was closed, and work at the Dmowski and Socrates roundabout finally began.
