Śródmieście policemen detained a person suspected of smuggling people in Warsaw. He had been active in an organized group for many years. He was wanted with an Interpol red notice by the Ukrainian authorities.

– Intelligence agents from the city center have detained a man wanted for smuggling people from Ukraine to Poland and then to other Western European countries. The 33-year-old was arrested at the beginning of the week in the center of Warsaw. The arrest warrant was issued by the Ukrainian authorities last December, says Robert Szumiata, a press officer for the downtown police.

He faces nine years in prison

According to the information available to the police, the man joined an organized criminal group in 2015, the purpose of which was to smuggle people of different nationalities outside of Ukraine and to recruit carriers for this purpose.

For this crime, under the Ukrainian Criminal Code, the 33-year-old faces nine years in prison. If the court so decides, the man will be deported to Ukraine shortly.
