Christmas trees still delight the eye in many people’s apartments and houses. But what to do with trees when they become unnecessary? The live ones in pots can be given to foresters who will plant them in the forest.

The City Forests are once again organizing a Christmas tree collection campaign. Trees can be returned on two dates: January 13from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., in front of the headquarters of the City Forests – Warsaw at ul. Korkowa 170A and 20th Januaryfrom 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the Nature and Forest Education Center at 1A Rydzowa Street.

Foresters will collect Christmas trees bought in pots. It is important that the trees have properly developed roots – this will allow them to be planted in the forest. “The employees of the City Forests stipulate that only native species of conifers will be accepted: Norway spruce, Scots pine and silver fir. The shorter the Christmas tree was kept in a warm room, the greater the chance that the tree will be accepted,” the city hall noted in a statement.

Compost tree or “greens”

A post-Christmas tree, bought in a pot or cut, can also be placed in a home composter; leave it in a container marked “green” or in a place designated by the property administrator for collecting this waste. Green waste is collected all year round, and the exact collection schedule for a specific address can be checked on the website and in the warszawa19115 application. The City Hall advises that it is best to leave the Christmas tree – like other green waste – at a waste collection point no earlier than 24 hours before collection. The Christmas tree should be free of decorations, packaging, soil and flower pots.

Residents who want to get rid of artificial Christmas trees can throw them into mixed waste if the tree is small. If it is large, it can be disposed of as bulky waste.
