Warsaw. Works on the reconstruction of Marszałkowska Street are starting

On Monday, the first works on the reconstruction of ul. Marszałkowska between pl. Bankowy and ul. Królewska – informed the Warsaw Municipal Roads Authority. The contractor is to fence off one lane on the road towards the center. The investment is part of the project known as the New Center of Warsaw.

The Municipal Roads Authority informed that the reconstruction of ul. Marszałkowska will start on Monday at 14. Road workers will close the left lane of Marszałkowska Street from Elektoralna Street to the U-turn before the intersection with Królewska Street. They will also take up some of the parking spaces at Plac Bankowy.

Workers will take parking spaces in front of the buildings of the Mazowieckie Voivodship Office and the Office of the Capital City of Warsaw. Warsaw on pl. Bankowy, where construction facilities will be arranged. They will be awarded – their first row behind al. Solidarności, in the northern part of the square.

“At the same time, the workers will start building a street lighting network and setting a curb on the roadway of Marszałkowska Street towards the city center. For the purposes of these works, they will fence off the left lane from Elektoralna Street to the turning point before the intersection with Królewska Street. Traffic organization on the other two lanes won’t change,” he said.

It was added that after the construction of lighting on this side of the road is completed, the works will move to the other side of the Marszałkowska road towards the centre. “It is planned to occupy the extreme right lane in June, and also the middle lane for the summer holidays” – it was noted.

Pedestrians and cyclists face the greatest difficulties also during the holidays. “During this period, road workers plan to work on sidewalks and bicycle paths” – informed ZDM.

Tens of thousands of plants

Works beginning are the first section of Zielona Marszałkowska. According to ZDM, on the western side of the street, between Plac Bankowy and Królewska, a road for bicycles, a new, wider pavement will now be built, and parking will be organized. 63 trees and tens of thousands of shrubs, perennials and climbers will be planted on Marszałkowska Street from Plac Bankowy to Królewska Street.

Zielona Marszałkowska is an investment within the project New Center of Warsaw, whose goal – as emphasized by ZDN – is to transform the very center of the capital into a comfortable, accessible and green public space.

Work is due to be completed in November 2023

Down tender announced by the Municipal Roads Authority eight companies applied. Their offers ranged from over PLN 8.2 to almost PLN 12.7 million. “The most advantageous proposal was submitted by the Balzola company – it will receive PLN 8,232,480.55 for the execution of the works. After signing the contract, the contractor will have 240 days to carry out the works,” the town hall reported.

Marszałkowska Street has already undergone the first changes – on its western side, along Plac Defilad, a bicycle path has been created, the pavement has been renovated, and parking spaces have been designated on the wide road. “More greenery has also appeared – in the form of 34 trees (silver limes “Varsaviensis”) and numerous shrubs and perennials. Recently, the very entrance of Marszałkowska Street to Bankowy Square has also undergone renovation, where the signaling at the pedestrian crossing has been moved, shortened and installed – one of the most dangerous in the city,” officials said.
