As it turns out, the inhabitants of Bemowo, Praga Południe and Wola reported the greatest number of such vehicles. “Thanks to the actions taken by the guards, the streets of Warsaw have ceased to be marred by burnt, devastated, corroded vehicles or turned into landfills” – praises SM in the release.
The city guard of the city announced that in the first half of 2021 it removed 1,395 cars recognized as wrecks from the streets of the capital. “A burnt Opel in Targówek, a devastated Volvo in Ochota, an accidental Skoda blocking a parking space in Wola for months – these are just examples of car wrecks that have disappeared from the streets of Warsaw. These vehicles will no longer disfigure the city, threaten Warsaw residents and the environment, and block much needed places parking lots “- informs SM.
According to her reports, in the first six months, the rangers undertook nearly four thousand actions related to the wreckage in Warsaw. Not all of them ended successfully. “The actions taken resulted in the removal of vehicles recognized as wrecks from the streets of the capital: burned, incomplete, covered with vegetation, rooted in the ground, corroded, with leaking liquids, turned into landfills, etc. After the interventions of the guards, 477 out of 1395 were removed by the owners. The rest were towed to the ground. special guarded car parks at the expense of the owners “- we read in the announcement of the municipal police.
As Jerzy Jabraszko from the city guard’s press section explained to us, the owner has six months to report for a vehicle towed to such a parking lot. Then the car becomes the property of the commune.

The guards’ announcement also shows that the locations of the abandoned vehicles are located by the officers during the daily patrolling of the streets. They are also reported by the residents themselves. “From the beginning of January to the end of June, 311 applications from residents were submitted. Most of them concerned the area of Bemowo, Praga Południe and Wola” – inform the guards.
In their opinion, the activity of Varsovians results, among other things, from greater environmental awareness and care for the city’s aesthetics: “Residents also pay attention to the environment, which is damaged by abandoned cars, especially those from which operating fluids leak – which is not such a rare phenomenon”.
As emphasized by the SM, the activities of officers regarding wrecks left on a public road, in the residential zone or in the traffic zone, are undertaken on the basis of Art. 50a of the Road Traffic Act. “According to it, a vehicle left without registration plates or a vehicle whose condition indicates that it is not in use may be removed from the road by the municipal police or the police at the expense of the owner or holder. 50a is possible only when the vehicle poses a threat to the safety of people “- explain the guards.
