In the suburbs of Washington, during the funeral, an argument broke out between the owner of the funeral home and the mourners. According to police, the man pulled out a gun at some point and fired two shots. He killed a 30-year-old family friend of a 10-year-old girl who was being buried. The girl was the victim of another shooting.

The incident took place on June 6 at a cemetery in Suitland near the capital USA. The NBC News portal explains, citing police information, that 48-year-old Wilson Chavis, the owner of the funeral home organizing the ceremony, got into an argument with two representatives of a competitor company just before it began. The man was supposed to be in a business conflict with them for a long time. According to the police account, Chavis’ behavior did not please some mourners. An argument allegedly broke out between the owner of the funeral home and the participants of the ceremony, during which the 48-year-old fired two shots. One of them fatally injured 30-year-old Ronald Steven Banks, who was carrying the coffin during the funeral. The man died in the hospital.

An unidentified woman was also injured in the shooting. A local police official, quoted by NBC News, said she had minor injuries and had been released from hospital.

Chavis fled the scene, but was quickly apprehended by the police. He was arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder. The police released his photo. According to the police report, he is facing life imprisonment.

Washington. 10-year-old shot dead while driving

NBC News reports that in the coffin that Banks was supposed to carry was the body of 10-year-old Arianna Davis. The girl died on May 14, the day Americans celebrate Mother’s Day. The tragedy happened in northern Washington. The portal explains that a “hail of bullets” was fired towards the car in which Davis was traveling with her family, and one of them hit the 10-year-old girl. Doctors failed to save her life. The perpetrators have still not been caught.

Antionette Belk, Arianna’s mother, told NBC Washington that Banks was a close friend of the 10-year-old’s family and intervened when he saw Chavis disrupting the funeral by starting an argument just before it began. The woman who was shot is the cousin of the girl who was shot. Belk explained that during an argument with attendees of the ceremony, the 48-year-old funeral home owner allegedly shouted, “This body belongs to me!” He also allegedly spat on one of the mourners – Arianna’s uncle. Belk said Chavis’ argument with competitors “had nothing to do with her or her family.” “I’m shocked that something like this happened at my daughter’s funeral. I didn’t even have time to bury her, and yet another tragedy happened. It’s a trauma for me, for my children, for our whole family – said the mother of a 10-year-old girl shot in mid-May.
