The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management warns of gusty winds that will appear on Thursday. Orange and yellow alerts have been issued for regions located in the south and south-west of the country. Wind gusts can reach 90 km/h.
Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMWM) issued first and second degree warnings on a three-point, ascending scale.
IMWM warnings of the second degree – strong wind
Second degree alerts were issued in the following provinces:
- Silesianin the counties of Pszczyna, Cieszyn, Bielsk, Bielsko-BialaŻywiec;
- Lesser Polandin the following counties: Sucha, Nowy Targ, Tatra, Limanowa, Gorlice, Nowy SÄ…cz, Nowy SÄ…cz;
- Subcarpathianin the counties of Jasło, Krosno, LoomSanok, Lesko, Bieszczady.
Strong winds with an average speed of up to 40 km/h, with gusts of up to 90 km/h, are forecast there, from the south and south-west. In the Silesian and Lesser Poland provinces, warnings will be in effect on Thursday from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., and in Podkarpacie from 5 a.m. on Thursday to 6 a.m. on Friday.

First degree IMWM warnings – strong wind
First degree warnings were issued for the following provinces:
- Lesser Polandin the counties of: Oświęcim, Wadowice, Myślenice, Wieliczka, Bochnia, Tarnów, Tarnow;
- Subcarpathianin the following counties: Dębica, Strzyżów, Brzozów, Przemyśl, Industry;
- Opolein the counties of GÅ‚ubczyce, Krapkowice, Prudnik, Nysa;
- Lower Silesiain the following counties: Kłodzko, Ząbkowice, Strzelin, Dzierżoniów, Świdnica, Wałbrzych, WalbrzychKamienna Góra, Jawor, Karkonosze, Jelenia GoraZłotoryja, Lwówek, Zgorzelec, Lubań, Bolesławiec.
In the Opole and Lower Silesian provinces, strong winds with an average speed of up to 50 km/h, with gusts of up to 80 km/h, are forecast from the south. Warnings will be in effect on Thursday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
In Małopolska and Podkarpacie, strong winds with an average speed of up to 40 km/h, with gusts of up to 75 km/h, may occur from the south and southwest. The alarms will be in effect on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
What are second-degree IMWM warnings?
Dangerous meteorological phenomena are expected to occur, causing significant material losses and posing a threat to health and life. Dangerous phenomena or the effects of their occurrence significantly limit business activities. Expect disruptions in everyday functioning. Great caution is recommended, as well as the need to track messages and the development of the weather situation. Follow all recommendations issued by the rescue services in a threat situation.
